Improvements are coming… Are you ready?

Street

Hey again MAddicts!

This week marks quite a few firsts for me, and for my blog… so if you don’t mind, I might take a moment to share those with you whilst I lean against a wall and look gorgeous (did anyone else need to rob a bank after this round of Uber? So much amazing fitmesh… between Addams, Blueberry, Just Because, Vinyl, Tres Blah… oh let’s just say between all the designers there – I’m pretty sure they walked away with every linden I have).waiting

Anyway I got a little off topic there. *Shakes fist at talented designers*

Firsts. I’ve had so many important milestones in my time blogging – my first 100 hits, my first comment, the first time someone ‘liked’ a post I made… all the way to now, with nearly 600 followers and getting close to 300,000 hits! I’m so proud of these stats (rightly or wrongly), because they tell me that you like reading my blog, and that is honestly the most amazing feeling in the world MAddicts… so thank you 🙂

But with all good things, they must come to an end…. JUST KIDDING – with all good things, there comes a time when they need to be made even BETTER… and you’ve been asking, so I’ve been listening. This blog is currently in migration from the platform it runs on now (wordpress.com) to its own independent domain! Nothing will change, not even the web address – but what it will mean is that I can start to offer all the things you guys have been wanting – like video tutorials, the ability to give your opinion on bodies/heads and fashion by use of a ‘star’ rating system, and much much more! Mesh Body Addicts is growing up guys *sniff* she’s becoming an adult!! So whilst that happens, if you notice she’s looking a tad odd…. forgive her, it means I stuffed something up and will fix it as soon as I realise 😛 haha.

Now, on to more exciting topics – the FAIR!! It’s been a looooong week for this blogger, with preparations for the Mesh Body Addicts Fair fully underway. Overall, it’s been such a rewarding experience planning and executing this event, but I’ll be glad when the 1st rolls around and I can exhale!!

On that note, I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me through this journey – designers, readers, other bloggers, friends… so many of you offered your time and assistance to help me make this a reality, and I’ll forever be in your debt for your unwavering support of me. A few special shout outs (not that you’re not all special!) to Annie from Just Because, Mishi from Blueberry and last but never least, Ash from AviCandy. The three of you held my hand when I needed it, gave me words of encouragement and helped me when I needed you. You’re all amazing, so thank you so much ❤

Well this blog got more soppy that I intended, that’s for sure, but whilst I get the ‘sneak peeks’ for the Fair post ready, if you have any ideas for what to add/change on the blog, now’s your chance to go nuts guys!! Leave a comment and tell me. This blog belongs to all of us MAddicts, so what suggestions do you have?

It’s that time of week again MAddicts – time for Weekly Fitmesh Finds! The Group is called Mesh Body Addicts Wardrobe. You can click here to join – https://www.facebook.com/groups/MeshBodyAddictsWardrobe/

I’ve also joined Plurk this week and I’m looking a bit like a friendless loser, so if you’re a Plurk lover, add me! 🙂

Now before I sign off and let you look at this week’s fitmesh finds, just a reminder that the Hair Fair closes on July 26th. This event is an amazing fundraising event for Wigs for Kids, so make sure you grab a bandana or some hair from Blueberry (these items have 100% of proceeds donated to Wigs for Kids) or make a donation in one of their donation bins.

Only a little over a week to go until the Mesh Body Addicts Fair as well, so stay tuned for sneak peeks, competitions and more information coming your way very soon! Oh and as promised, I made a ‘Cammer’s Cafe’ for all of you cam shoppers to hang out at, and you can see that in the pic above 😉

Hair Fair – Top Hair Picks for Mesh Heads

Mina

Someone once asked me what I would focus my blog on, if it weren’t for mesh bodies, and honestly I think if mesh bodies hadn’t come out I would have started focusing my blog on my other shopping addiction, HAIR!! It makes sense therefore that I am so excited about Hair Fair this year (like everyone else I imagine!).

Something is different this year though – and no, it’s not the Fair. Yes, they’re having their 10th anniversary, but the Fair is the same amazing event that is put together every year. The difference is that this year, we’re shopping with different needs. This year, we have mesh heads and mesh bodies, and strangely enough these two do have an impact on how hair looks on our avatars. How? Well Mesh Heads, that one is kinda obvious. We’re replacing the system head with a mesh head, so of course rigged hair (and the newly popular fitted mesh hair) is always going to be problematic, because it’s attaching/fitting to the invisible system head that lies under our mesh heads. Mesh bodies is another story.

It’s a relatively common practice now for hair designers to include ‘busty’ options with their hair. This became a ‘standard’ after the introduction of lolas breasts, because quite simply long hair that covered the breast area would just go straight though lolas. The thing is, the market has changed, and lolas are far less popular now that mesh bodies are in the mix, but hair designers are still creating using the ‘lolas’ busty option. So when will hair designers start editing their ‘busty’ options to be more mesh body friendly?

Whilst not a huge issue, it is an issue, because mesh body breasts (unless you have them exceptionally large) are typically much smaller than what the ‘busty/lolas’ equivalent hair has them set to be – yet they’re still bigger than system breasts. We need an ‘inbetween’. Now this leaves two options for designers – fitted hair for mesh heads/mesh bodies (of which there are too many combinations to make it practical), or making an ‘interim’ size, somewhere between normal and busty. Personally I think the latter is much needed, although it would be amazing to see some fitted mesh hair made specially for mesh heads (keep in mind that this would require models of mesh heads that hair designers most likely cannot get hold of, so it’s more a rhetorical suggestion).

All that said though, there are ways to select hair more suitable for your mesh head/body situation, and I decided that I would do this at Hair Fair!

If you’re not familiar with the terms, there are three types of hair:
Unrigged – this means you can edit/move their hair
Rigged – this means the hair is ‘attached’ to the system head, so you cannot move it up/down
Fitted mesh hair – this means the hair is fitted to the system head.

In my experience, I’ve had a hit and miss experience with the most common type (that being Rigged hair) – although more hits than misses – because it all depends on how the designer rigs it/makes the hair. Unrigged hair is your best bet for a mesh head, simply because you move it around and do what you need to make it not sink into the top of your head – where as fitted mesh hair almost always sits oddly on mesh heads. All that being said, it’s all about the designer and how they make it, so as with everything, demo!

For the Hair Fair however, here are some of my top picks for mesh heads 🙂

MINA

I’ve always loved Mina hair – it’s always so realistic and high quality, and I love the option of using materials enabled versions of the hair. The Mina hairs are all rigged, with the exception of the optional bangs on the Nicolet style – which I loved, because it meant I could adjust it a little to make it look more natural on my mesh head. That being said, all styles worked perfectly with my Lelutka head!

RUNAWAY

Runaway makes some truly traffic stopping styles, and I love her use of blunt fringes and volume. All her Hair Fair hair is rigged but the Harley hair does include an unrigged version – not that I had any trouble with it fitting my mesh head anyway.

OTHER HAIR

Honestly, there are so many amazing styles at the Hair Fair that worked well on my various mesh heads – so I won’t list them all, lest we all be here for the next century, but I’ve included my final two top picks below – ‘I want you’ from Lamb (Hair Fair Link), and ’40’15’ from ( r e d ) M i n t (Hair Fair Link):

Lamb - need you RedMint - 40'15

So have you been to Hair Fair yet? What’s been your favourite?

Mask Mode Tutorial for Belleza Users

Float away

Hi MAddicts!

First things first – this week I’m doing one of Strawberry Singh’s famous Memes! The topic this week is ‘Ask me anything’, so I’ve set up a little page for you guys to, well, ask me anything! I’ll choose some questions to answer in my next blog post, so go ahead and submit your questions HERE 🙂 They can be Mesh Body or Mesh Head related of course, but also any questions you have about blogging or me in general are welcome! ❤

Okay so today I’m revisiting a topic especially for the Belleza crowd (and those with other bodies who may not be familiar with it) – Mask Mode!

Please note – this tutorial is brought to you by MS Paint. MS Paint – the creative side of work laptops 😛

Now, I recently posted a tutorial about Mask Mode, but it’s become quite a hot topic once again because for the first time, Belleza users now have access to this function for their bodies, and it’s causing a few headaches 🙂 So let’s get into it!

Belleza’s new update is HERE!

Freda

Well Belleza lovers, you’ve been waiting for it, and the time has finally come…..

The new Belleza update is out!!!!!

For me, Belleza was the first mesh body I ever bought. In fact it was the body that started a love affair with mesh bodies that has lasted until, well it’s still going! Now I know, there has been a lot of contention about these bodies and the length of the wait for an update, but after reviewing it myself I can tell you – I think the wait was worth it.

Now I can anticipate a few questions from those considering buying the Belleza body, so let me explain one thing upfront for you. Whilst the update does include three ‘shapes’ of mesh bodies, this doesn’t mean that they’re not fitmesh. You can still use the shape sliders to adjust your size/shape to be as you want it to be – all this means is that the way the mesh (the shapliness of the curves, breasts etc) differs between each of the three included models. So for example, if you wore Venus and set your breast slider to 60, the breasts will look very different to if you were to wear Freya and set her breast size to 60. It’s all about the curves and shapliness.

Take me back to the Summertime…

one piece

Well, for those of you who may know me in-world (or for those of you that have been reading my blog for a while) – you probably know I’m an Aussie girl, which means… it’s Winter here! In true Winter form, I have taken the liberty of going out and catching a cold too… which is where SL comes in really handy right now. See in SL land, it’s Summer… so in my mind, it’s warm and sunny and there are cute guys in board shorts as far as the eye can see 😉

With that in mind, I decided to grab my box of tissues and go adventuring on the SL beach! Which is a good thing, because the summer fashion that has come out this week has me inspired! I can’t help it, I get so excited when my favourite designers release items – and it’s a genuine, bubbling up out of my chest excitement. New bodies and new fitmesh fashion for them just makes me happy, sad though that may be! haha

Last night I noticed the very talented designer behind Maitreya, Onyx LeShelle, was releasing a new one-piece swimsuit and kimono for her Maitreya body, something I had been dying to see for quite some time because I absolutely adore her work – the detail she puts into both her mesh and her texturing is exquisite. Not sure what I mean? Zoom in on the ties and straps on this swimsuit – every detail is perfect and most of, realistic! There’s a string, so there’s a hole where that string goes into the fabric under the breast, for example. I was extremely touched to receive copies of these items from Onyx herself, and I hope I’ve managed to do them justice – so a huge thank you to Onyx and her CSR (who I always picture as being her sidekick…. as if they solve crime in their spare time) Gryph 😉 ♥

Another designer who’s detailing I can never fault, is the very talented Mishi from Blueberry. This girl blows me away with every item she releases, and her latest skirt is no exception. One of my favourite features on this one is the fact that it fits so closely to the Maitreya body, yet still fits the mesh underwear (which is included with the body) underneath it (if you hide the bows that is). I was also able to wear this skirt over the one-piece swimsuit above with no issues at all. Add that to the texturing, fraying and tears on this skirt and it’s mind-blowing how detailed it is.

zaara

Well with all that said – it’s time for me to head back to my far less Sunny RL, and of course, my tissue box 🙂

Belleza’s update & Weekly Fitmesh Finds

Alpine

Alrighty so first things first – the new Belleza update is coming (which we’ve talking about for a while now) but I’ve literally just had some interesting information passed to me so I thought I’d share it with you all!

So the new Belleza update (which will be free to existing body owners) will include:

  • 3 bodies (yes 3 haha, a version of the current body that is compatible with the new HUD, their new ‘standard’ mesh body and a ‘fantasy’ body, which is a curvier more shapely version of the body.
  • 3 breast options – Natural, Perky and push-up
  • Updated hands/feet to include sock/glove layers and SLUV mapping (meaning – skin designers will be able to all make appliers for it easily now!)
  • New skin texture and a skin colour picker
  • Skin effects/materials options
  • New neck sizing/neck sheath (cover) for improved fit
  • Mask mode (yay! this is the mode that helps prevent conflicts when wearing two active layers)
  • Many more alpha cuts
  • A new nail shape, and much more.

So Belleza lovers, there’s lots and lots of excitement coming your way VERY soon ❤ I’ll of course blog about it and update my reviews once it’s out, so stay tuned for that too.

Now that we’ve covered that – I’m actually early for once with the fitmesh finds – mostly because Kustom9 is now open and Summerfest is opening in 24 hours, so I want to make sure you guys know where to go to grab awesomeness!!!!

See below for this week’s Fitmesh Finds! Some great finds this week, including a new swimsuit from Maitreya that I cannot wait to own!

Mesh Body Troubleshooting & FAQ’s

Alice

Using a Mesh Body can sometimes leaving you feeling like you’ve fallen down the rabbit hole – and now you’re stranded in Wonderland! Well, I can relate to that, so below I’ve compiled some Frequently Asked Questions that land in my inbox, hopefully you’ll find a solution here! 🙂

FAQ & TROUBLESHOOTING MESH BODIES

1) What is Omega?

Omega appliers were created to be ‘universal appliers’, meaning, you could buy a clothing item with only one applier in it (omega), and know it would work on your body. This saves time for designers, because they only have to make one applier. This has worked very well, with most mesh body creators agreeing to make their bodies ‘omega compatible’, however two popular designers, Slink and The Mesh Project, have declined to do so. Other bodies, like Belleza, Maitreya, Eve, Lena, Banned, Perfect Body – are all Omega compatible.

So how do you use an Omega applier? Well it’s no different to any other applier (ie. you attach the HUD then click the ‘apply’ button and the clothing appears), however you may need to ‘activate’ the Omega in your body first, depending on what type you use. By going to Omega headquarters, you can join their free group and purchase the applier for your body for 1L (sometimes 3L). Depending on your body, you may have to rez your body and drag/drop the script in, or open the installer HUD and hit ‘install’, or in the case of Maitreya, wear a relay HUD when you want to use Omega appliers. Some bodies like Lena, you don’t have to do anything at all. After that, you can buy any outfit that has Omega appliers, which opens your range a lot.

2) What’s the big deal with ‘fitmesh?’ What does that even mean?

Okay first let’s look at what ‘standard mesh’ is.

Standard Mesh is the standard sizing mesh clothing you find in most stores. You will most likely find that your body will ‘break through’ the standard mesh because the mesh body *isn’t* the same shape as the standard SL Avatar (and because most standard SL avatars break through them anyway), so this is where your Alpha HUD becomes necessary, to hide parts of your body. Standard mesh is mostly rigged, which means it’s attached to your body at a certain point or points (imagine imaginary anchors holding the clothes on your body at the shoulders, stomach and hips for example). Now standard mesh (rigged or not) is solid, which means it doesn’t stretch with your body, it just warps as you move a little.

Fitted Mesh is mesh that is made to stretch, grow/shrink and move with an avatar. Standard fitted mesh (that is, fitmesh that does *not* have a specific size for a mesh body) is fitted to the SL default system avatar. This means that the garment will move with your sliders, but if you’re wearing a mesh body, because mesh bodies and system bodies are different shapes, you will find it difficult to make standard fitted mesh fit you.

Speciality Fitted Mesh – eg. Fitmesh for Maitreya or Fitmesh for Belleza – this type of fitmesh has been created by a designer and specifically fitted to your mesh body. What does that mean? Well it means that (depending on how well the creator has ‘fitted’ it to your body) it should fit your mesh body, irrespective of your size/shape! Now this isn’t a perfect science, because mesh clothing creators need certain models from each mesh body creator to make ‘perfect’ fitmesh for their body, and many creators do not give this out. For this reason, many designers are ‘eyeballing it’ or just plain doing their best to make the garmet be the closest fit it can be for your body. So always demo demo demo and remember, creators doing this are doing their best. It’s incredibly difficult to do, and I say good on them for giving it a go!

3) My HUD isn’t working/isn’t responding/won’t detach

  • Are you in a sim that allows you to run scripts? (Note – some sandboxes/shops/sims don’t allow scripts to be used, and your HUD requires that to work).
  • Have you tried to detach and reattach the HUD? If the HUD won’t detach, odds are it’s ‘stuck’, which means you have reboot your viewer to fix it.

4) I was wearing applier pants/a top/whatever when I teleported, but now that I’ve landed it’s gone!?

This is typically a result of wearing two or more appliers on layers that overlap each other (for example – wearing stockings on the underwear layer, and high waisted shorts on the clothing layer). In summary, each of these clothing items has transparency in them (alpha) and that causes a graphics issue which results in one layer partially or fully becoming transparent against the other. To fix this, if your mesh body has a ‘mask mode’ function, you can try using that on your shorts/pant layer. It will reduce the quality of the textures, but at least you’ll have pants when you land! Otherwise, it’s generally safer to stick to one layer at a time.

5) I’m try to apply skin/a top/pants/whatever and it won’t show on my body when I press ‘apply’!

  • Are you in a sim that allows you to run scripts? (Note – some sandboxes/shops/sims don’t allow scripts to be used, and appliers require that to work).
  • Are you using the correct applier for your body? (ie. a Maitreya applier for a Maitreya body)
  • Are you using an Omega applier? If so, is Omega installed in your body (not all bodies have this included out of the box, Belleza for example requires you to buy the Omega Installer, then press the ‘Install’ button to put the scripts in the body. Don’t forget, if you update your body, you’ll need to do this process again!), or do you have the relay HUD on (for bodies like Maitreya you must wear the relay HUD any time you want to apply Omega items)?

6) My body has weird shadows on it/looks really strange!?

For Mesh Bodies to render correctly, you must have ‘Hardware skinning’ enabled in your settings, or it will look like you’re deflating. For Firestorm users you can find this setting in your Preferences – Graphics tab (tick the box that says’ hardware skinning’). This basically allows some aspects of avatar rendering to be handled by your graphics card, which increases performance, especially for heavy render items like mesh bodies. For 99% of people, this must be ticked for mesh bodies to ‘look’ correct.

7) My mesh body has cracks through it, like little lines of light or ‘cracks’ around the alpha cuts?

This is typically a Level of Detail issue. Mesh bodies require a lot of rendering power, so sometimes they can look broken (or even mushed up!). The first thing to do is to make sure that in your Preferences – Graphics tab, you have your ‘Level of detail’ set to 4. This should fix most issues, however sometimes if you cam away from your avi, or when you teleport, you might find your mesh body/head becomes distorted. If this happens (and your Level of Detail is at 4), open your ‘outfits’, look at the ‘wearing’ tab and right click – edit on your mesh body/head. This will bring up the ‘build’ menu that lets you move objects/resize them etc (not that you can with a mesh body because it’s rigged) but just do nothing for a few seconds, then close out of it. That will force your graphics card to focus on your mesh body for a moment, giving it enough power to load properly.

Now keep in mind, just because you look distorted to you, doesn’t mean you do to everyone else. Similarly, you may look fine to you, but if the person looking at you doesn’t have their Level of Detail set high enough, or has a slower graphics card, you’ll look weird to them. That’s life on the grid!

I hope this has helped one or two of you!

Too much shopping & BIG NEWS!

Latex

This week has been one of those weeks where I feel like I have more than abused my virtual purse – but it’s not my fault! Designers keep coming out with so much exciting stuff… I mean for starters, Lumae, League and Pumec have released their newest skins for the LeLutka mesh head, all of which have been so stunning that I’ve had to *cough* buy them all….. then the Cosmetics Fair was open and of course, I needed makeup for my LeLutka and Genesis heads and well, who am I to resist cosmetics…

Then of course, Kustom 9 opens, and Bueno has some mesh body fitmesh tops that are to die for – then Shiny Shabby (which opens in a few hours) has new releases for Maitreya and Slink Physique from SPIRIT and KITJA….

Anyway, you get the idea.

Also – a note for those of you on the ‘naughtier’ side – the new Indulgence BDSM & Kink Fair will be opening on June 1st – and it’s going to be a naughty one! Everything from latex outfits right through to furniture and other goodies, definitely worth checking it out when the time comes (it even has a red light district! Rawr!).

Okay now – BIG NEWS!!! It is with pleasure (and a bit of terror) that I announce that I have decided to go ahead with the Mesh Body Addicts Fair! The who/what/where/when/why/how will become known to you shortly, but the interim I’d like to thank you for everyone who has offered support, encouraged me and expressed interest in helping me with this celebration of the mesh body! I’m so excited to get it started, so watch this space for more information.

In addition to that, a new tutorial is coming out this week with some great information (especially for Maitreya users), and for the guys, I’ll be revamping the review of the Niramyth body now that I have a copy of my own to play with – that will come up as soon as I’m done perving on myself… I mean testing it.
